prototype · in testing

A simple, low-cost way of listening to people directly and turning what we hear into something structured and useful.

Currently being tested at small scale in real-world settings.

About

An early-stage project testing a simple idea.

Go out into the real world, speak to people directly, and build a structured picture of what is actually happening on the ground.

The approach is deliberately low-cost, lightweight, and easy to repeat. It does not rely on formal surveys or institutions. It is designed to work in everyday environments such as markets and public spaces.

The aim is to develop a method that can be used by anyone to capture real voices and turn them into something useful.

Fieldwork

Human-first. Immediate. Grounded in real interaction.

Fieldwork involves direct, informal conversations with people in everyday settings.

We capture short voice notes, observations, and lived experiences — particularly from those who are rarely asked or represented.

This is not data collection in the traditional sense. Each interaction is small, but over time patterns begin to emerge.

How It Works

Five steps. Repeatable anywhere.

01
Go out
Engage with people in real environments — markets, public spaces, everyday settings.
02
Listen
Capture short voice notes, thoughts, and observations.
03
Organise
Structure the input so it can be understood and revisited.
04
Learn
Identify patterns, shared concerns, and emerging signals.
05
Return
Feed insights back into communities in practical ways.

Why It Matters

Most systems miss a large amount of lived experience.

Most systems rely on formal data, surveys, or institutional input. Fieldwork is an attempt to create a parallel layer of understanding based on real voices.

It has potential applications in:

  • community projects
  • local decision making
  • grassroots democratic processes
  • sortition-based assemblies

Early Stage

Development

Built through use, not theory.

This project is at a very early stage. Everything is being built through use.

We are currently testing:

  • how easy it is to capture meaningful input
  • what methods work in practice
  • how to structure and use what is collected

The focus is on small-scale, real-world testing rather than theory.

Future Directions

Directions, not finished systems.

There is potential to extend this work into:

  • simple tools for organising and visualising input
  • lightweight AI-assisted pattern detection
  • shared community platforms
  • integration with other projects focused on participation and communication

These are directions, not finished systems.
